July 4 usually marks the halfway point of summer. But this year feels different.
I’ve already worked three weeks of summer school. My husband, a coach, works strength and conditioning all summer anyway. And now, a pacemaker surgery is forcing me to pause. Rest, not by choice—but maybe for purpose.
No big trips this year. Not California to see family. Not London, our heart city. Just here. Home.
And yet—I feel this deeper stirring. A call to use what I have—my voice, my platform, my time—to push for something better. To get my classroom wishlist funded. To help other teachers get noticed. Because we’re educating the next generation while being used as pawns in a game we didn’t sign up to play.
They say there’s money. But it dangles just out of reach. And still—they wonder what’s happened to education. Why young people don’t trust the government. Why they don’t understand the system.
Maybe it’s because they’re watching the ones who serve them most get stretched the thinnest.
And we’re still showing up.
